1And YHWH said to Avram (Abram), "Go, yourself, from your land and from your birthplace and from your father's house, to the land which I will show you. 2And I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great — and be a blessing. 3And I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse, and all the families of the ground will be blessed / will bless themselves in you."
4And Abram went as YHWH had spoken to him, and Lot went with him; and Abram was seventy-five years, a son of, when he went out from Charan. 5And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot the son of his brother, and all their possessions which they had gathered, and the persons which they had made in Charan, and they went out to go to the land of Kenaan (Canaan), and they came to the land of Canaan.
6And Abram passed through the land to the place of Shekhem (Shechem), to the oak of Moreh; and the Kenaani was then in the land. 7And YHWH appeared to Abram and said, "To your seed I will give this land." And he built there an altar to YHWH who had appeared to him. 8And he moved from there to the hill country east of Beyt-El (Bethel) and pitched his tent — Bethel was to the west and Ai was to the east — and he built there an altar to YHWH and called on the name of YHWH. 9And Abram journeyed, going and journeying toward the Negev.
10And there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was heavy in the land. 11And it was when he drew near to enter Egypt, and he said to Sarai his wife, "See, I know that you are a woman beautiful of appearance. 12And it will be when the Egyptians see you, and they will say, 'This is his wife,' and they will kill me, and you they will let live. 13Say, please, that you are my sister, so that it may go well for me on your account, and my life will live because of you."
14And it was when Abram came to Egypt, and the Egyptians saw the woman, that she was very beautiful. 15And the officials of Pharaoh saw her and praised her to Pharaoh, and the woman was taken into the house of Pharaoh. 16And to Abram he did well on her account, and he had flock and herd and male donkeys and male servants and female servants and female donkeys and camels.
17And YHWH struck Pharaoh with great plagues, and his house, on account of Sarai, the wife of Abram. 18And Pharaoh called Abram and said, "What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she is your wife? 19Why did you say, 'She is my sister,' and I took her for myself as a wife? And now, see, your wife — take her and go." 20And Pharaoh commanded men concerning him, and they sent him away, and his wife, and all which was his.
