1Now after Yeshua (Jesus) was born in Beyt-Lechem (Bethlehem) of Yehudah (Judah) in the days of Herodes (Herod) the king, see, magoi from the east came to Yerushalayim (Jerusalem), 2saying, "Where is the one born king of the Yehudim? For we saw his star at its rising and came to bow down to him." 3And Herod the king, having heard, was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4And having gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the anointed one is born. 5And they said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judah, for thus it has been written through the prophet:
6'And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Yisra'el.'"
7Then Herod, having secretly called the magoi, determined from them the exact time of the appearing star. 8And sending them to Bethlehem, he said, "Go, search carefully for the child, and when you find him, report to me, so that I also may come and bow down to him." 9And having heard the king, they went, and see, the star which they saw at its rising went before them until it came and stood over the place where the child was. 10And seeing the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. 11And coming into the house, they saw the child with Miryam (Mary) his mother, and falling down, they bowed down to him, and opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts: gold and frankincense and myrrh. 12And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way.
13Now after they departed, see, a messenger of the Lord appears to Yosef (Joseph) in a dream, saying, "Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Mitsrayim (Egypt), and be there until I tell you, for Herod is about to seek the child to destroy him." 14And he rose and took the child and his mother by night, and departed to Egypt, 15and was there until the death of Herod, so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet might be fulfilled, saying, "Out of Egypt I called my son."
16Then Herod, seeing that he was outwitted by the magoi, was exceedingly angry, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all its vicinity, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the magoi. 17Then was fulfilled what was spoken through Yirmeyahu the prophet, saying:
18"A voice in Ramah was heard, weeping and much lamentation — Rachel weeping for her children, and she would not be comforted, because they are not."
19Now after Herod died, see, a messenger of the Lord appears in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, 20saying, "Rise, take the child and his mother, and go to the land of Yisra'el, for those seeking the life of the child have died." 21And he rose and took the child and his mother, and came into the land of Yisra'el. 22But hearing that Archelaos reigns over Judah in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there, and having been warned in a dream, he withdrew to the regions of the Galil (Galilee). 23And coming, he settled in a city called Natseret (Nazareth), so that what was spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled: "He shall be called a Natsri."
